Papain activity units: why the assay method matters technical guide

Activity is method-dependent

An activity value is meaningful only with its unit definition, substrate, pH, temperature, reaction time and calculation method. Results from unlike assays should not be treated as directly interchangeable without a justified relationship.

Compare documents before prices

When reviewing suppliers, compare the activity method, tolerance, physical format, carrier system, storage conditions and batch-release documentation. A lower mass requirement does not automatically mean a better process result.

Connect release testing to formulation

The assay used for incoming qualification may differ from the actual process. Formulators should still use a consistent release method while validating performance in the intended substrate and operating window.
